Healthcare Clinic for 26 Municipalities (anticipated completion in Summer 2012)

Global HEED is funding & building the first community health clinic in Calhuitz, which will serve 26 municipalities and over 10,000 people. The clinic will be run by Dr Mario Rodriguez, who is the only doctor serving the area.

Elementary School for Village Children

Global HEED has worked with the community to fund & construct a school within the Calhuitz, which many of Calhuitz’s children attend classes in Biology, Math, and other interesting subjects which challenge their minds. Many of the school’s dedicated teachers come from out of town during the day, teaching the children a large array of subjects to their kids.

Center for Women’s Education

We have also collaborated with Calhuitz in funding a portion of the construction costs of a Center for Women’s Education, which is used as a teaching ground for women’s groups which come to Calhuitz from other surrounding villages to learn more about the health education programs. The Center is also used as a housing complex, where the visiting women stay while participating in programs spanning multiple days.

Community Healthcare Worker Training Center

Global HEED funded & constructed a community healthcare worker training center, which is used as location to train midwives who will serve the residents of the area.

Village Pharmacy

Global HEED funded & constructed a pharmacy, from which medication is distributed to the residents of the area. After prescribed medication by nurses at the Casa Materna (the maternal healthcare house), a pregnant mother will go to pick up her medicine from the phramacy which is in close proximity to the Casa Materna.
